Our Story

Howland House is for those deeply in love with living.

We believe a beautiful life isn't reserved for holidays, milestones, or someday. It's built in ordinary moments: dinner lingering past sunset, flowers cut from the garden, a book you can't put down, an unexpected trip, a table with room for one more.

We believe the things we bring into our homes should earn their place there.

They should be beautiful, certainly, but also useful. Well made. Interesting. Sometimes a little unexpected. Things meant to be touched, used, passed around a table, taken into the garden, packed for an adventure, and eventually marked by the lives lived around them.

We don't believe old is automatically better than new, expensive means well made, or perfection makes something worth keeping. We look for character, craftsmanship, story, and delight.

What We Do

We create and curate objects that support the moments that make life worth living.

For now, that means sharing stories, discoveries, places, traditions, and objects we think are genuinely worth knowing about.

In time, it will also mean creating pieces of our own, designed with the hope that they'll become part of your stories too.

A Note from Our Founder

I'm Ashley Howland, and Howland House began with a question I couldn't quite shake:

What actually makes a life feel rich?

Again and again, my answer had very little to do with extravagance.

It was the people around the table. A house that held memories. Gardens, books, travel, beautiful things made well, conversations that went on too long, and those fleeting moments when you suddenly realize how good it is to be alive.

Howland House is my attempt to make a little more room for those moments.

Remember, the occasion has always been your life and you should never wait to start living!
